An interesting lecture on al Qaeda, well worth the forty minutes.
I share at least a part of his awkward position -- opposed to the invasion, and yet now opposed to a US withdrawal.

Hi,
I enjoyed your remarks on M. Tottens blog. God, I hope we don't bomb Iran.
Halfway through the video. Fascinating.
One immediate question comes to mind: How do you change the culture to address the humiliation issue?
How do you jumpstart cultural transformation?
Just finished the Q&A portion and found his comments describing the pace of change in Saudi Arabia as head snapping very interesting.
This sets up quite the conundrum.
The west needs the region to change faster than it is to make it compatible with the 21st century, and yet that pace of change would most likely result in push back from the population because its too far too fast.
Yet, without radical cultural change, the Muslim world will not be able to create the economic or scientific achievements that would help allay the sense of humiliation within the culture.
And thus, the cycle continues.
How depressing.
